Calling it "Radio Sunshine" is about as un-cool-establishment as were others' early 1970s references to "The Pink Floyd".
Radio station small /BBC radio/ local radio are monopoly
Man said gramophon music
Remember nova well ,used to listen to it on nights in preston lancs ,brilliant station
13:18 - (essentially) other capital cities had 60 stations, London had had 3.... Self-Stifled Britain.
30th anniversary 🎂🍾🥳⭐️🎊🎉
And now they are back for good, with a license, but still don't get paid!
Radio Nova still gets a mention most weeks nowadays on Radio stations in Ireland.
☹️
Great radio, and greatly missed!
Great radio station, shame it closed. Was reborn on satellite as Radio Nova International in Wegener PANDA 🐼 1 stereo via Intelsat VA-F11 on BBC WSTV using 7.38 / 7.56 MHz plus Radio Nova International via Astra 1A on the Lifestyle / JSTV / Children's Channel transponder 5 11.273 GHz H polarisation in Wegener PANDA 🐼 1 Mono 7.56 MHz.
I hear this guy's voice in my balls
Sunshine Radio still going strong in 2022!
Virgin should have been given Radio 1's two MW frequencies to provide better coverage of the UK.
Sunshine radio did come back and later in 1992 legally, Sunshine radio still rocks in 2022!
ik heb hem nog op vinil zo'n zwarte krakker op de draaietafel
Loved this station
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏
Lovely to see this report and keep it archived. I am a radio geek and love learning the history of radio.
It started broadcasting on the Isle of Man waters
Shocked to learn the BBC weren't very positive about pirate radio. 😆
She was seething... would fit in as a “Journalist” with Ease today.
Memories, remember this
Thanks for the video, although that isn't Peter Powell doing the commentary.
Deep voice of sir Bill Mitchell such a wonderful voice
Great voice
Bill Mitchell is the reason I started smoking. He would light up a Dunhill king size, take 2 puffs and put it out, only to light another a minute later. I would raid his ashtray.. I was 13.. he was dating my mum..
Bill Mitchell is awesome and that's his normal voice I have some jingle cds with him on them. Thanks for posting this great clip 👍👌
I remember the moment this went live, me and my mate were sharing ear phones off a Walkman while riding our bicycles! The first song they played was "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf, though they were broadcasting a couple of days before with random stuff, tests and such.
The cover version by Australian band INXS was played instead with Michael Hutchene on vocals.
@@Glamking1 ah, ok. It was a long time ago but I remember the song.

old rado nova
My name is Mark Talbot. I started out on your very venture in 1968-69 when aged 11 and called my show the Desmond Grey Show and still have recordings of it. By the mid 1970's I was producing it for what I termed 'Private Radio' (a play on Pirate Radio) and as with the earliest shows, it was mastered on cassette tapes. It initially went out to school friends and family, and later, when I left education at Oxford, to work mates, etc, who, through recommending me to their associates, also came to form part of my then established audience on a weekly basis. By the early 1980's I had 30 listeners who simply posted the tapes back to me. By the early 1990's I had 100 listeners at one point and the list mushroomed to a degree that it wasn't any longer viable to sustain the postal numbers, and so listeners were asked to send the tape to another member, who would then post the tape back to me. Many shows were on C120, and all were on TDK cassettes. The show was renamed Second Side Up in 1974. It continued to 2015. The BBC covered my story and it was broadcast nationally, and has been heard in The States and Australia, among others. If you would care to hear the show then seek the following either here, on UA-cam, or on the BBC iPlayer. Second Side Up. Between The Ears. BBC Radio Three. Mark Talbot. Happy New Year. Regards. Mark Talbot. London.
these boys blew RTE out of the water....so the irish goverment shut them down....speaks volumes about the irish goverment
Caesar the Geezer was unmissable listening as was Jeremy Beadle.
Did Border Radio ever receive a license?
What's the name of the song at 12:00?
1992ravefan Don’t know if this helps or not, but have a listen to the intro to this classic from the Beatles, very familiar to the sound @ 12:00 ua-cam.com/video/dsxtImDVMig/v-deo.html
It's cool I found the name: Mel Brooks - It's Good To Be The King - 1981
1992ravefan Glad you got it sorted 👍

the best thing about this station when it went to talk sport
Nooooooo it spoiled radio when it whent to sport, it took over 20 years to use its old format
I switch off when it became talksport, how boring!! Yawn!!
Rubbish.
Despite being on AM only, the station grew healthy audiences.
Chris Hulse how does it do these days?
@@craigr9881 As Absolute Radio, not too bad, although in 1993 we didn't have the Internet or DAB, so FM/AM radio was the only media available.
Christopher Hulse I find UK radio really interesting. I listen to the RadioToday pod cast. Although it’s a shame local radio has gone and replaced by voice tracking
Virgin Radio is back, Been on Air since March 2016, Much better reception on DAB, If only they had broadcast on FM the first time around, Reception on AM for this station was terrible after dark.
@@scottpeacock5492 not on an old roberts radio

I remember listening to Radio Maldwyn years ago and was invited to the studios by Martin Adams once, happy times!
Holy crap!!! I've been waiting years to see this. So many thanks sent your way.
I was very fortunate that this radio station managed to travel up the Red Lake Valley into Chapel Lawn. Caroline, Lazer 252, The Great 208 etc made up my youth I always made sure the bus radio was set to 252 !!!!
listened to this station growing up in brum in my teens.. miss those days.
